Christmas Eve - Build
=====================
After the computer determines the ownership of each supply center at the end of
a Fall turn, it then counts each empire's supply centers, and compares those
numbers with the number of units that each empire has active. Each supply
center owned by an empire allows it to control one unit. As such, an empire
might find it has to build or disband units on the Christmas turn.
The computer assigns builds for the Christmas turn when a player has fewer
units than supply centers. This can happen if the player issued a disband
order in the previous Spring or Fall, chose to disband a retreating unit in the
previous Midsummer's Eve (or missed the turn and the unit was disbanded by
default), or if the player captured a new supply center that Fall.
When you select a territory listed as BUILDING in the Enter Moves menu, you
will be presented with a list of your home supply centers (which you started
the game with) that are unoccupied. If the territory listed has a coastline,
both the land territory and the coast will appear in the list. By entering the
number of the home supply center in the list, you can choose where to place
your new unit. If you choose a land territory (at the top of the list), you
will build an army; a coast territory (at the bottom of the list) will build a
fleet. Choose your build locations and types wisely; they could mean the
difference between success and failure in the game.
If any of your supply centers were captured, and you did not capture new ones
yourself to offset the loss, you will be forced to permanently disband a unit.
The computer will assign a default unit to disband. This may be changed by
selecting that unit in the Enter Moves menu, and choosing the number of the new
unit to disband. Similar to your builds, you must choose disbands wisely. A
loss of a center in the front lines could be devastating to your strategy,
while a recent build, not yet close to the center of the action, may be more
easily parted with.
